about

In 2004, Jim Malone, a singer/songwriter from New York City, began clearing land on 12 acres of land in upstate New York. Three years later, he had finished a log home and begun a love affair with woodworking, craftsmanship and design.

Counter Evolution NYC, the company he started in 2007, restores wood from one of America's most enduring icons—the bowling alley.

In 1980, bowling lane manufacturers began using synthetic materials for new and replacement lanes, thus phasing out the wood lane. Malone takes this vanishing resource and transforms it into contemporary tables, benches and countertops for the home, restaurant or workplace.

Each piece combines the warmth and character that only reclaimed wood can provide, with elegant, modern design. But these pieces not only look nice, they are true, eco-friendly products. The use of reclaimed wood as an alternative to new hardwood gives trees time to grow, and that’s good for everybody.
